Travis Potts enlisted in the United States Navy, as a Lithographer, in October 1993; having graduated from SHAPE American High School, Mons, Belgium and attended a year of college in Prescott, Arizona. He attended Boot Camp in Orlando, Florida before A-School training at Fort Belvoir, VA. After training Travis Potts was assigned to the Print Shop onboard the USS Mount Whitney, Flagship for US Second Fleet. In 1995 the USS Mount Whitney led the US Second Fleet in Operations against the current Haitian Government during Operation Uphold Democracy. The USS Mount Whitney was one of the first vessels anchored in Port-au-Prince Harbor and remained for a period of forty-five days.
Travis Potts left active duty navy in 1997; joining the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1998. Travis Potts first served as a lithographer, in the reserves, and then as an Intelligence Specialist; stationed at HM-15 Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Unit; VR-56 Vanguard – Fleet Logistics Command; and finally Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). Travis Potts was also assigned to NATO forces in Sarajevo, Bosnia, in 2003 as a member of the Stabilization Forces.
Travis Potts left the reserve forces in 2009 as an Intelligence Specialist 1st Class (E6). During his time with the US Navy and Naval Reserves Travis was awarded the Joint Services Commendation Medal (JSCOM), Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/ Star; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Medal; the Armed Forces Service Medal; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M; and the NATO Medal; in addition to various ribbons including the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) ribbon, the Navy "E” Ribbon and the Navy and Marines Overseas Services Ribbon.
Travis Potts joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 2006; Post 9478 out of Sterling, VA. During his time with the VFW Travis Potts has held the posts of: Adjutant (2007 – 2010) (Post 9478) and (2013-2016)(Post 1177); Quartermaster (2007 – 2010) (Post 9478), Senior-Vice Commander (2016-2018)(Post 1177); Commander (2010-2011)(Post 9478) and (2011-2012)(Post 1177); District 10 Adjutant; District 10 Surgeon.
